STEM Instructor-Robotics

Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri.  Harris-Stowe’s beautiful campus is minutes from the renowned Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park and other cultural and educational institutions.  Harris-Stowe’s diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the St. Louis region.

 

 Summary:

The Verizon Innovative Learning for Minority Males program is a STEM based program that provides services to middle school minority males. This program takes place on Harris-Stowe State University campus in two portions, academic school year and summer camp. We are looking for well educated professionals familiar with working with the aforementioned demographic group. This candidate will be highly motivated to make a positive impact in the lives of the camp participants. Camp dates are: July 9th- 27th. 

 

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety of students while participating in all classroom activities.
  • Work cooperatively with administration and staff.
  • Follow Harris-Stowe VIL MM classroom and curriculum guidelines.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues directly to Program Coordinator.
  • Inspire creative thinking through active classroom participation.
  • Be able to problem solve and adapt to the needs of students.
  • Notify Program Coordinator of issues/ needs via email or phone as they arise. 

 

 Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree from accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching math, science, engineering, coding, or technology at the middle school level.

 

  Other Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Applicants are subject to criminal background checks.
  • Must Be available for training June 25-29, 2018.

 

 Cognitive and Physical Requirements:

  • This person should be attentive to the needs of the instructor as well as the students.
  • Must actively engage with students to ensure classroom participation.
  • Each course area will require hands on activities.
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Must actively engage in all classroom and group activities.
